Our Commitment to Community

Mental Health is deeply influenced by our environment and the strength of our communities. While my private practice focuses on individualized care, giving back remains central to our values. We are proud to support local organizations that provide essential services and meaningful support to those most in need in our community. This year (2026) we are proud to have supported the following charities: Safelight, Inc – Hendersonville; Beloved Asheville – Asheville; The Veteran Healing Farm – Mills River; The Haven Shelter – Brevard; Blue Ridge Humane Society – Henderson County

A Quick Introduction

Hi, I’m Dr. Joanna Gratton and I am a board-certified psychiatrist based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. I help adults (ages 18-64) navigate a wide range of emotional and mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, PTSD, addiction, ADHD, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, and other psychotic disorders. We will work together to help you deepen self-understanding, build confidence, foster resilience, and move through life’s transitions and challenges, resulting in an overall improvement in your quality of life. I see people locally in my office in Hendersonville, or via telehealth. I am licensed in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maine.

I have a special interest in supporting women’s mental health throughout all stages of their reproductive lives. I work with women throughout pregnancy, post natal, peri and post menopause and beyond. Together we will work to help you develop a deeper sense of self, increased confidence, improvement of family relationships and communication, a healthier sex drive and a greater ability to navigate through life’s difficult chapters.

I also really enjoy working with other physicians and mental health providers seeking mental health support for themselves through medication management, therapy, or both. I provide a safe confidential place where you can speak freely about burnout, anxiety, grief, or identity struggles with a fellow doctor who understands the culture of medicine. I provide a discreet, understanding space for providers seeking shame-free mental healthcare to reconnect with themselves and find renewed purpose in their practice.

My Approach

My focus on developing positive and trusting relationships with patients allows for the deep and difficult work necessary to move through challenging times. The nature of my practice allows me to have more time to spend getting to know you, address any concerns that come up, and to ensure we create the most effective treatment plan for you.

My belief is that we are all unique beings and must be treated as such. I offer a unique, personalized and integrative approach using different modalities including: traditional psychiatric care, supplements, herbal remedies, lifestyle coaching, sleep hygiene, lab testing, meditation and mindfulness, grounding exercises and psychotherapy. I also look closely at how nutrition and body movement can positively impact your mental health. I partner with individuals and family members, guiding them toward greater self-awareness, resilience, and fulfillment.

My Values

Validation

Every fear, concern, and opinion of the patient is valid. It's essential that patients feel heard and respected. When their feelings are genuinely acknowledged, trust is formed. This foundation allows for effective education and collaboration, driving progress toward improvement.

Collaboration

I view the treatment process as a shared decision-making journey between provider and patient. By encouraging patients to take responsibility for their mental health, they gain confidence in the plan and develop a sense of ownership. The relationship between provider and patient is key to the client’s success and is, to me, invaluable.

Education

I believe education is crucial in empowering patients. When patients understand the process, the rationale behind treatment options, and the science supporting these recommendations, it can reduce stigma, fear, and apprehension. Providing evidence-based recommendations and explaining the rationale builds patient confidence in their care.

Inclusivity

I believe in creating an environment that fosters inclusivity, diversity, and equity, ensuring that patients feel safe, respected, and validated.

How might I help you?
