Medication Management

Medication management is a structured and collaborative process designed to help stabilize mood, reduce symptoms, and support long-term emotional wellness. At Stillpoint Psychiatry, treatment is tailored to each individual—not just a diagnosis. Together we explore your history, symptoms, medication preferences, prior responses, lifestyle factors, lab findings, and clinical goals to determine the safest and most effective medication approach. Care is delivered in a warm, thoughtful, and relationship-centered environment for adults ages 18–64, in person throughout Western North Carolina and via secure telepsychiatry in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, and Maine.

A Personalized and Collaborative Approach

Medication management is not one-size-fits-all. We take time to learn about your lived experience, emotional patterns, medical history, sensitivities, prior treatments, and current goals. This helps us prescribe carefully, monitor how you respond, and adjust dosages or medications as needed. We discuss potential benefits, risks, side effects, interactions, and supportive strategies so you feel informed and confident in every decision.

When Medication Can Help

Medication may be appropriate for conditions such as:

  • Anxiety and panic symptoms

  • Depression or mood changes

  • ADHD

  • Bipolar spectrum conditions

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Emotional overwhelm or chronic stress

  • Hormonal transitions affecting mood

  • Trauma-related symptoms

  • Cognitive or concentration challenges

Medication is not always required — sometimes it is all you need, sometimes it plays a supporting role alongside therapy, integrative care, lifestyle practices, or nervous system support. We explore the most effective approach that aligns with your values

Comprehensive Monitoring and Follow-Up

After starting or adjusting a medication, follow-ups allow us to monitor progress, address any potential side effects, evaluate real-world impact, and make refinements. If something isn’t working, we collaborate efficiently and thoughtfully — adjusting dosage, timing, combination therapy, or switching to a more appropriate option. You never feel rushed or unheard.

Follow-ups may occur:

  • every 1-3 weeks early in treatment

  • every 1-3 months once things stabilize

  • more frequently if clinically indicated

You receive clear clinical communication, ongoing support, and informed, collaborative decision-making at every step.

Integrative Support When Needed

When appropriate, we may incorporate integrative support alongside medication to enhance stability or symptom relief. This may include:

  • high-quality supplements or nutraceuticals

  • herbal or botanical support

  • lifestyle or sleep optimization

  • grounding techniques and somatic tools

  • nutritional considerations

  • mindfulness practices or stress reduction strategies

Integrative options are utilized when safe, clinically appropriate, and evidence-informed.

Medication Management for Complex or Long-Term Conditions

Some individuals have been on medications for years without guidance, clarity, or reassessment. Others have tried multiple medications with mixed or confusing results. We provide thoughtful review and clinical organization when:

  • medications feel ineffective or partially effective

  • combinations feel unclear, duplicative, or confusing

  • tapering may be appropriate

  • new symptoms have emerged over time

  • life circumstances have shifted

  • integrative approaches are desired

This kind of revisiting and refining can dramatically improve comfort, clarity, and daily functioning.

When Side Effects Need Attention

We address concerns such as:

  • fatigue or sedation

  • irritability or emotional blunting

  • changes in appetite or weight

  • sleep disturbances

  • sexual side effects

  • nausea or discomfort

  • overstimulation or jitteriness

Rather than ignoring side effects, we explore ways to minimize or eliminate them — whether through adjustment, alternative selection, supportive nutrients, lifestyle strategies, or integrative care.

Medication & Therapy Together

Medication and therapy can be powerful together. When appropriate, medication may help reduce emotional overwhelm or reactivity, making therapy more accessible and productive. For some individuals, therapy alone is enough. For others, a combined approach provides the deepest level of growth, stabilization, and recovery.

Whether therapy is provided here or coordinated externally, we support whichever approach aligns with your needs.

Who Is a Good Fit for Medication Management

You may be a good candidate if you are:

  • struggling with emotional regulation or internal overwhelm

  • experiencing persistent anxiety or depression

  • seeking clarity after trying multiple medications

  • dealing with stress-related symptoms

  • feeling stuck or unstable despite your best efforts

  • wanting a thoughtful, integrative, personalized approach

  • looking for guidance that honors both clinical medicine and whole-person care

You do not need a diagnosis already — evaluation is part of the process.
