Compassionate Psychiatrist Proudly Serving Hendersonville

Hi, I'm Dr. Joanna Gratton and I created Stillpoint Psychiatry for people seeking thoughtful, unhurried care where they feel heard and treated as a whole person- not just a list of symptoms.

I offer personalized psychiatric care, medication management and therapy for adults (18-64) coping mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma/PTSD, bipolar disorder, chronic stress, burnout, eating disorders, and life transitions. I have a special interest in women’s mental health as well as supporting healthcare professionals seeking confidential care.

My focus on developing positive and trusting relationships with patients allows for the deep and difficult work necessary to move through challenging times. The nature of my practice allows me to have more time to spend getting to know you, address any concerns that come up, and to ensure we create the most effective treatment plan for you

In-person appointments are available at my comfortable office in Hendersonville. I also offer secure telehealth appointments for patients throughout NC, VA, and ME.

Working Together

Stillpoint Psychiatry operates as a private pay based practice. This means I am out-of-network for all insurance providers, including Medicare and Medicaid.

Insurance plans often impose restrictions on the types of treatments covered, the frequency of sessions, and the duration of care. By choosing to not contract with the insurance companies I’m able to provide you with the best care possible; a care that is thorough, personalized, unhurried, and holistic. It also allows us to tailor your treatment plan based solely on what you and I determine your needs to be; not what they (the insurance companies and employers) decide your needs are.

Additionally, this model enhances your privacy. Without involving insurance companies, your mental health records remain confidential between us, free from third-party access- such as employers

I know that our not taking insurance can be a challenge for many. It is a big deal and can be tough when you decide to invest in yourself this way. However there are a couple of ways that we may be able to help make this a little bit more manageable. They include:

  1. While your insurance company may not directly pay for our visits, in most cases they do cover (at least in part) any necessary lab work and prescriptions that I might order/ prescribe for you.

  2. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a detailed receipt (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. You still have to pay for services as you go, and then submit the “superbill” to your insurance company for at least partial reimbursement of your costs. Check with your HR person and/or insurance plan for available out of network benefits.

  3. If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Savings Account (FSA) through your employer, then you most likely can use those funds to pay for our services.
